Living with loss

GRIEF & BEREAVEMENT COUNSELLING - West Cornwall - IN PERSON & ONLINE

Grief looks very different from one person to another. You may be grieving the death of a partner, family member, friend or someone with whom your relationship was complicated.  Or it may be the ending of a relationship, a significant change in your health, or the loss of a future you had imagined. Grief follows many kinds of loss, and whatever has brought you here deserves space to be heard.

Grief changes far more than how we feel. It can affect our relationships, our sense of ourselves and the shape of everyday life. You may feel overwhelmed by your grief, or simply notice that life has not felt quite the same since.

I offer calm, person-centred counselling where you can talk honestly about your loss, feel properly heard and...

find room for grief alongside your life.

Grief isn't something we leave behind

Instead, life gradually begins to grow around it. New experiences, relationships and moments of meaning can find their place alongside what has been lost.

The grief remains part of us, sometimes close to the surface, sometimes quieter, but no less real. Over time, our lives can become fuller again, not by forgetting, but by making room for both loss and living.

You are the expert of your grief

I practise person-centred therapy, offering a calm, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and at your own pace.

Rather than analysing your thoughts or trying to assign meaning to them, my role is to listen closely, bear witness to your experience and support your own unique process of growth.

There is no pressure to arrive at a particular answer. Instead, therapy creates space for understanding to emerge naturally, allowing you to find your own way of living and growing around your loss.

You don't need to have the words

You may know that you’re struggling without knowing exactly what you want from counselling. That’s okay.

You don’t need to arrive with the right words, or have any idea of what needs to change. Grief is confusing, contradictory and difficult to put into language.

We can begin simply with what has happened, how life feels now, and whatever feels most present for you. From there, we can take things at your pace, allowing space for understanding to emerge naturally.

Loss & Life

Room for Both

Grief can become such a large part of life that, for a time, it's difficult to see much beyond it. That does not mean it will always feel this way.

There can be room for both grief and living. You may begin to notice moments of connection, enjoyment or calm without feeling that you are leaving the person you lost behind.

Grief is not a beast to be defeated. The aim is not to forget, move on or return to who you were before. Working together, we can find a way of living with what has changed, while gradually allowing more of life to sit alongside your loss.

I'm Benjamin Scott

Grief Therapist, BACP

Since 2017, I have worked alongside people facing death, end-of-life decisions, funeral planning and bereavement. I've seen how support often fades just when grief is becoming part of daily life.

I offer a calm, confidential space to talk and be heard. There's no expectation to move on, just room to speak about whatever matters to you, at your pace.

My hope is that you feel safe to bring what's real, and that you don't have to do this on your own.

★★★★★
I don't know what I would have done without Benjamin. He was brilliant, someone I totally trusted. Before I felt invisible and had no one to talk to. After our first session, I looked forwards to my calls each week. I'm still crying but not having the meltdowns I was. It’s been a lifeline.

★★★★★
Ben was exceptional. He listened well and encouraged me to look at things differently. He was so polite and well mannered and I really looked forward to our sessions each week. Ben is such a warm and caring person and I would so recommend him to anyone looking for support.

It was very useful, it took a couple of sessions for me to warm up, Ben was absolutely fantastic, I'm a bit slow to open up to people but by the end of it was feeling more comfortable.

How To Get Started With Counselling

1. Arrange a free 20-minute call

We can start with a relaxed, no-obligation conversation. You can tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions you have, and get a sense of whether I am the right person for you to talk to.

2. Book your first session

We meet either in person near Camborne or online. There is nothing you need to prepare and no expectation that you will know where to begin. We can simply start with what has happened, how life feels now, and whatever feels most important to you.

3. Work At Your Own Pace

There is no set number of sessions and no pressure to make a decision straight away. After our first session, I encourage you to take some time to consider whether you would like to continue. If you do, we can agree a pace and frequency that feels right for you.

Ethical Framework

Grief can leave us feeling exposed, uncertain and vulnerable, so the way counselling is held really matters.

Registered with the BACP, I work within their ethical framework around confidentiality, professional boundaries, competence and accountability. This helps create a relationship where you can speak honestly about your grief, knowing that your experience will be treated with care, respect and sensitivity.

For me, these principles are not just professional requirements. They are part of creating a safe and trustworthy space where you can explore what your loss means for you, at your own pace and without judgement or pressure.
