My Therapy & Approach

Grief can follow many kinds of loss

My practice is focused on grief, bereavement and loss. While grief is often associated with death, it can also follow other significant changes — the end of a relationship, loss of health, redundancy, retirement, changes in identity, or the loss of the life you expected to have.

Whatever the source of the loss, it can leave you feeling disorientated, overwhelmed or unsure of who you are now.

We start with what matters to you

Sessions are led by what feels most important to you. You might want to talk about the person who died, what happened around their death, how a relationship ended, changes to your health or work, or simply how you are managing day-to-day life. There is no set agenda and no expectation that you should be feeling differently by a particular point.

I work in a Person-Centred way, which is therapy jargon for putting you, rather than a diagnosis, theory or set of techniques, at the centre of the counselling. I will not tell you what you should be feeling or try to push you towards a particular outcome.

More than simply listening

That does not mean I simply sit back and listen. If it feels helpful, I can also offer guidance, ideas and psychoeducation around grief. We might explore what is happening in the brain and body when we experience loss, look at different ways grief has been understood, or even consider what writers and philosophers have said about loss across centuries.

Some people want this kind of context because it helps them make sense of what they are experiencing; others simply want space to talk. We can use as much or as little of it as feels useful to you.

There is no fixed number of sessions. Some people find a shorter period of counselling helpful, while others value having support for longer. We can regularly review how the work is feeling and decide together what is right for you.

I work with clients face-to-face in West Cornwall and online across the UK, Canada, and US.

FREE 20-Minute Call

If you’d like to see whether counselling with me could help, you can book a free introductory call.  We can talk a little about what has brought you here, ask any questions, and see how it feels to speak together.  It’s simply a first conversation, there’s no pressure to book counselling afterwards.

Pricing

Standard - £50

This is my usual fee for a 50-minute counselling session and reflects the sustainable cost of running my practice.

If you have a stable income and can comfortably meet your everyday living costs, this is probably the most appropriate rate to choose.

Community Support - £65

For people who are financially comfortable and would like to contribute a little more.

This rate helps me continue offering Reduced Rate sessions to people who may otherwise struggle to afford counselling.

You receive exactly the same counselling whichever rate you choose — this option simply helps makes my practice more accessible to others.

Reduced - £35

For people who would find the Standard fee difficult to manage.

This rate is intended for those on a lower income, out of work, facing financial pressure, or for whom the cost of regular counselling might otherwise make it inaccessible.

I keep a limited number of Reduced Rate places available. There is no need to provide proof of income or explain your circumstances. I trust you to decide whether this rate is right for you.
